[So Sora's sitting on the steps in front of the Vita Apartments eating ice cream, but he doesn't seem all that interested in it. It's just sitting there, starting to melt all over his hand. He's lost in thought, looking frustrated, bordering on confused or annoyed.]

... I got a question...

Is anybody out there some kinda hero where they came from?

[He hesitates.]

Or anybody, really.

... How'd you end up figuring the good guys from the bad?

At home, I had a few friends and we'd help to try and get rid of the dark hour in order to save the world. I don't know if that counts as being a hero completely, but Junpei would probably --

[Pause. He's rambling.]

It just depends on what you think is right. You may be helping to save the world in some way, but someone else may be going against it, thinking that them doing so is the right thing to do. There are many different types of good and bad, but just because you do things you think are good, doesn't make you a "hero".

No.. no, you're totally a hero. You're exactly who I was hoping for!

[Aanndd then Akihiko's explanation sends him into turbulent waters again. There goes his certainty.]

So... what're you supposed to do... if you can't figure out who's who? How do you ever get anything done if you never know who's a good guy or bad guy?

[He feels like he's going in circles. Sorry, Akihiko. Things are complicated for Sora.]

We do what we think is right, in our sense. There's a certain way to obtain that reassurance that we're doing the right thing.

[he tries to think of an example...]

Say your friend is about to get killed because the 'criminal' thinks that your friend wanted to capture him and hand him into the authorities. Believing it was the right thing to do because the criminal wants to protect himself, to live, he threatens to kill your friend. Our instincts are to survive, but is it right for the 'criminal' to attempt murder in order to regain his own freedom?

That's easy! The 'criminal' did something to be a wanted by the police in the first place- that's why he's running, right? And now he's even trying to hurt someone so he can get away with it? That's even worse.

He's definitely the bad guy.

In your eyes, yes. In his eyes? He thinks it's the right thing to do. You have one opinion, he has the other. Even if one person thinks it to be the wrong opinion, it's still there, isn't it?

Then there's justice. You don't want to run around being a vigilante, you know?

[Oh man, you're questioning the wrong person about being a vigilante. He breathes vigilantism, Aki.]

But I can't just sit back and let it happen either... If you don't help them, who else is gonna? No way I could watch somebody get hurt like that. He's just trying to do 'the right thing' to get away, not the 'right thing' because it's really the right thing to do.

[Sora pauses. Did he even make sense just then? Still, he's pretty invested in the argument now.]

Well, it depends on what you think you should do.

[He offers a small smile.]

If you think you should save your friend, then do it.
